2000 Western Grands
Portland, Oregon
On behalf of Portland Quarter Midget Racing Assoc we thank you for your interest in the 2000 Western Grands - Racing into the New Millennium. We promise you an exciting, fun week of racing and family style entertainment
July 22 - 30
The track is a banked asphalt track set in an enclosed bowl with bleacher seating on 3 sides and the tower enclosing the other side. The track was built in 1956 in the heart of the Alpenrose Dairy. The dairy is set on 52 acres within the Portland City limits. The site includes: an operating dairy, Dairyville - (a western frontier town, comprised of false store fronts with games, pony rides, old fashioned Ice Cream Parlor and much more for the family), world class Little League Stadium (host to the LL World Series), Olympic Style bike racing on the Velodrome, BMX racing on the dirt track and numerous Picnics through out the year. Alpenrose also has an Opera House that houses a pipe organ and a Horse Area where they run the "Lil Britches rodeo every year in June. For more information on the dairy try www.alpenrose.com. They also have a great picture of the track.
The Dairy itself is located on the SW side of Portland not more than a 10-minute drive to the heart of downtown. We have many facilities within a 5-mile radius, groceries, Laundromat, restaurants, and gasoline. Within a 10-min drive you will find movie theaters, shopping malls, downtown Portland. (While you are here why not take advantage of our no sales tax shopping).
If you are looking for a bit more sightseeing, the beach is approx. 1.5 hour drive, Mt Hood is approx. 1 hour, the beautiful Columbia River Gorge is also worth a visit. Portland International Raceway and the Portland Speedway are 30 min from the Dairy.
We also have many fun and exciting activities planned through out the week at the PQMRA track.
We are offering a "Official Millennium Program" as a souvenir. Send the enclosed information sheet with pictures of your drivers so they can be included. Get your Driver Registration in early to avoid the rush at Sign-In, all mailed entries need to be mailed before July 20, 2000.
