Quarter Midgets of America

Rule Change Proposal 1998

Date: Aug 10, 1997

Submitted By: Langley Quarter Midget Club

Region 9

Rule#___??___ Section:___??____ Page:____??_____

Present Wording:

Minimum Weight 300 lbs

Proposed Wording:

Minimum Weight 325 lbs

Reason For Change:

To encourage more drivers to compete in the class.

Let's consider the weight: 160 (car) + 100 (driver) + 10 (gear) = 270 lbs. But by the time most of the drivers reach 100 lbs they are unable to fit into the smaller and lighter chassis. Therefore, the cars now weigh say 170lbs to 180lbs. Now we're up to 280 to 290 lbs. This would be ok if the drivers stopped growing but they don't. You are trying to be competitive but soon you are giving away 10 or 15lbs and that hurts in the Mod class. I know of several handler/drivers that would still be running Hvy Mod but stopped because they could no longer be competitive. I believe by increasing the combined weight to 325lbs you would see more drivers competing in this class.

Yes, I know you could spend a wheelbarrow full-of-money buying titanium bolts and heim-ends, kevlar body panels, Spool-wheels, etc. and reduce the weight of the larger chassis but I know I can't afford those goodies. How about you?

I give my permission for our Regional Director, his assistant or/and person designated by him to alter or change this rule change proposal as necessary to assure compliance with current and pending QMA rules.
