If speed is an issue here, then why don't Jr.
Stock, Sr. Stock, and Sr. Honda have restrictor
plates? You could also include Hvy. Honda and
Hvy. Stock.
Age is not the factor here, experience is. My 8
year old driver is more experienced then my 15
year old driver.
Our jump from Sr. Novice to Sr. Honda was much
more dramatic then going from Jr. Novice to Jr.
Honda.
No matter what class the driver moves up to,
there will be some re-adjusting and training
needed. The clubs need to make sure the driver
is ready to move out of novice.
I don't think an unrestricted Jr. Honda will be
faster than a Jr. Stock. I don't know because
I've never removed the restrictor plate. (You
don't know how many times my son has asked me to
do this.) Our Jr. Stock track record is 6.38 and
our Jr. Honda track record is 6.91, the
difference here being the restrictor plate and
weight difference.
My 8 year old wanted to go faster, so we started
racing Jr. Stock this year. The extra seat time
doesn't hurt, but that was not our main goal. At
our track, the Jr. Stock and Lt. Mod times are
close (at least in club race qualifying). Also,
the Lt. Mod class this year in the state seems to
be very brutal. If the Honda didn't have a
restrictor, we may not be in Jr. Stock now and
could have saved a lot of money.
My point is, treat all stock classes the same.
Why impose artificial limitations to only one
class?
