This whole message had a great deal of common sense in. Nicely said Jim.
These new shocks are just another expense, that will ultimately keep a lot of
people out of the sport. As pointed out, it is already one of the more
expensive ways to spend your "Disposable Income". What the heck is that?
Disosable? As in, "I don't need this money, so I'll burn it?". Time and
efforts would be better directed to find a way for more people to get into
the sport, than trying to find more expensive ways to be in the sport. Just
MHO.

John,

Don't forget that the current form of this sport was founded by a
USAC member/owner/driver in 1952 (NO it did not start in the '30s, as
incorrectly reported on several web sites!)! Many USAC families over the
years have had kids in QMs. Quarter Midgets are not unknown to USAC,
they had a qm in the front window of their headquarters in Speedway,
Indiana for years. Would they be interested in QMA as a youth partner? A
few years ago I would have said no, but times change and with the loss
of the IRL who knows. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

Pops,

I agree, nicely said! Lets face facts. "In the beginning" qms DID NOT have
shocks! Is that shocking? Did they handle well?? I dunno, but AAs turning low
5.9s was the rule rather than the exception, something must have kept 'em on the
track!

I, too, don't have a definition for 'disposable cash' and don't figure I'll
live long enuf to have any. So let the voice of reason speak when thinking about
things that will raise costs. QMs may not go away, but it will be a much more
exclusive 'country club!'

I agree with Scott, $250 is way to much for something that may be wiped out
in the next 'racing incident.'

Just MHO also!!

Has anyone looked at the Manufacturer section of the QMA.COM website lately?

There is a new website for Boomerang QM's, which looks to be a partnership of
John Hall and George Goddard?

Anyone seen one of these cars? IS George washing his hands of Fast Track
now that he is retired? Anyone know more than is shown on the website?

Thanks

John

Jay,

I think you should be a shamed of yourself. You are going against the tried
and proven not to work way of doing things. Just look at the Honda rules
without finding out if the manufacture was at all interested in meeting the
specifications as defined by this huge customer called QMA.

Now Jim,

You are sounding just like Jay. You are saying lets go against what has not
worked in the past. At least we know it doesn't work. Your idea may or it may
not work. The biggest reason I keep hearing that it won't work is because it
is all run by volunteers. Who said it has to stay an all volunteer
organization. Opps, I did it now. that is not the way it has been done in the
past.

Any of you watch the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley? There was a lot of "we
don't do it that way" in the beginning of the movie, like right when HP told
Wazniak to take his little toy computer and go do anything he wanted to with
it, or when Xerox said no customer is going to buy something called a mouse.
Maybe the time has come to Think Different.

Thanks, it was really a lot of fun. The host club did a great job
running the race, I've come home with a lot of ideas of how we can
improve ours and shorten the day. I would like to go back and race more,
but I think we might have worn out our welcome!

I took my wife to the indoor track before they went to the new building. The
AA's ran and she said that is what happened to you when you were a kid. Your
dad did this to you... She thinks that placed caused brain damage from lack
of oxygen and a hearing loss from the noise level. And you want to do the
same thing to our daughters? I told her I had a lot of fun there.

The surface is painted concrete at on end and not painted at the other. It is
as flat as a board. I don't know what they put on the racing surface today
but the they used to use everything from brake fluid to Coke syrup. The first
race on brake fluid was always my favorite. Like racing Karts in the rain.
They had wood retaining walls that always seemed to get a good work out every
weekend. The track would go from ice to glue in the features. You try to set
up a car for that. Grandpa used to say "If you can win here you can win
anywhere." It was loud and burnt your eyes but I have some great memories
from there.

Wow!!! Guys are you sure you want to discuss the eventual well being of the
organized "kid's racing" league, or the sanctioning of the "nascar link
racing" etc... this is the kind of stuff that hits the airwaves and then gets
started by a group of guys that want to make a buck. I think you have a
great idea don't get me wrong but what exactly is the purpose? I thought I
registered with a small amount of money to a club already, I know I sent a
lot of registration money to my local club for membership but I didn't mind
because I knew they didn't charge to have my entire family out there for the
day watching dad/mom & child having a great day. I just happen to find out
about 1/4's when I went to the local nascar racing series event and there was
a little track located on the grounds. Interested I read the sign and we
went to watch the next race. Why the need for introducing more politics and
such the track was full of parents kids and "me" well I got up the nerve to
ask someone and boom there was a very well put together packet of info and a
contact list, etc., I made some calls and here we go novice racing for the
first time. I will volunteer to help at the track and I know my wife will as
well and I see the kids running the food stand and I see a group of people
talking on the track and well I guess I don't see the reason for generating
more expense avenues into the sport. How ever if there is going to be a
movement into this avenue around the globe for pure profit I hope it does not
come from the loss of family owned values, morals, and the belief that if it
is kept simple, affordable, easy to understand and approachable there will
grow a big business that warrants planned growth. I have seen the "growth
Monster" take good ideas and wipe them out, I have also seen the "smart start
monster" save many ideas. What was my point again I seem to have forgot?
Anyway why is there talk of this I just happen to sign up for the mail
program and I see nothing in the past that caused the discussion of growth?

Have to admit that as I recover from such an incident, I had to laugh.
I think if
it had been my own kid that hit me I'd be tempted to put a 'handler' on
the car.
Believe the traditional location would be up under the drivers name.

Tony - Doc says the leg looks real good even took the crutches away.
Might even
be able to start working on race cars here shortly. Do you have a
schedule of
upcoming indoor events this winter that might be close by?
