Lets start the paperwork tomorrow... we could be racing on dirt in a
month ! If Tampa has a 1/10, then the precedent has been set.
There could be no good justification to deny our application.

My son runs in both Jr. Honda and Jr. Stock. I am totally against having a
restrictor plate in the Jr. Stock class because it is bad enough having one
in the Jr. Honda class. If your kid can't handle the speed, there are seven
days in a week so you better not miss one day of practice at the track. I
feel that the more practice a kid has in the quarter midget, the better the
handler and driver develops. If you don't care for the speed of the stocker,
sit on the porch and cuddle your honda. When a rule change involves a
particular class or motor, let them decide. For example, let the stocker
class decide their own fate.
I was also wondering who else on this list is not a current QMA member
besides Dave Brenn?

There may be liability issues with the Jr. Stock.
Think about it. QMA's official position is that any 5 year old who graduates
out of Novice can step into a Jr. Stock. QMA has defined a ladder of classes
with restrictions to make an attempt to match skill, age and experience with
performance. But here is Jr. Stock where performance has exploded well
beyond what it was a few years ago when the class structure was designed.
The National org (BOD and RDs) know this to be the case. If they don't act,
there is the possibility that both they personally and QMA are open to
liability.
Keep in mind that QMA is a California non-profit and California isn't known
as the Sue Me state for nothing. And regardless of where the incident
occurs, the plaintiff can have the case tried using California law. I know
this because when I worked in KS for a CA company, we had an employee in
another group secretly recording conversations (and no, her last name wasn't
Fiser). In KS it was legal but in CA it isn't. But per our company lawyers
she could pick and choose which rules applied to her.
jvr
btw, it's unreasonable to expect everyone to go to the track every day when
a large percentage of the QMA membership lives more than an hour from their
track? We have several families that drive 2 hours to get to the track and
there are 5 tracks (soon 6) in Northern California. I'm sure that some of
the more isolated tracks like Minnesota, Topeka, Huntsville and the like
have many families that drive more than an hour to get to the track.
Besides, some of us have jobs.

I agree that a restrictor plate for Jr stock is needed. But when I hear
someone talking about liability being placed on someone or something rather
than him or her self than I get that yucky feeling. What about the
liability we parents have. If someone feels so deeply than put your
restrictor plate in your car and continue to fight to have the rule changed.
Maybe it is time for some parents to walk their talk.

John,
I absoultly agree with u about the restrictors on the Jr Stock, What I don't
think is that the Jr. Stock handlers will agree with us. This in not a smart
ass statement. I truly believe they go way to fast to handle it. They need
to slow down and learn to drive first. Maybe we can have some input from
some of the Jr. Stock handlers? I know there is someone out there just

But it is QMA's responsibility to ensure that the specs for a box-stock
class accomodate 99% of all the engines available box stock. Sure, there
will be surprises due to manufacturing changes but the rules and system
should accomodate or plan for that contingency.
The whole point of the box-stock (aka Honda) classes isn't to go slow, it is
to provide people with the opportunity to race in a reasonably cost
effective way without having to employ the services of a professional engine
builder. You take it out of the box, stick it in the car and race.
>>
Jim
I wish there was an easy way to solve this problem, but the fact remains that
Honda builds these engines as "universal applications" They were not built
for QMA only. Honda has no responsibility to QMA as far as the specs of there
engines go. They can change the specs at any time without letting QMA know.
IMO the only people that Honda is required to let know of manufacturing
changes are their authorized service dealers. Honda could drop the GX120 at
any time, whether QMA approves or not. I think QMA has done a good job
setting up standard specs that all QMA 120's must go by. If we are
continually changing rules to keep up with every Honda that may be out of
spec, we spend more time making rules and less time racing. Maybe the answer
is to keep the specs the same but change the penalties to allow people a
chance to correct the problem before a 30 day suspension and lose of the
engine. (Jim if I read your post incorrectly I apologize ...Tawnya thinks I
may have)

John,
I commend u on your honesty about your son, Not too many people would be
willing to say that. I feel the same way u do. Many handlers want their
children to do well. (As we all do) They sometime get caught up in the
racing and sometimes forget why they actually got into this sport. It is the
time we get to spend with our children. If they r having fun, whether they r
going fast or not so fast, or whether they win or they don't, that is why we
r there.
Sometimes it just takes some children a little longer than others, but most
times they do come around and had a great time doing it. I think if some of
the handlers could lighten up a little it would make the racing a little
easier on the child. Don't think Im getting soft! I have been in this sport
tooooo long. I do have 2 children that have raced in 1/4 midgest and had a
great time doing it. Not many dads know their kids like 1/4 midget dads do.
Especially those girls! katie

The Tech Committee could make a rule in 10 minutes... It isnt a question
of time.
I, or anyone else shouldn't be forced to purchase a QMA approved
Honda-in-the-box and then have to send it off to a builder to check it
for legality. We can't blueprint the engine to MAKE it legal (that
would cause a different set of machining marks) (immediate suspension)
We are damned if we do...damned if we dont.

What if we (honda people) took our motors out of our cars every week and left
them at the track (hoping no one would steal them, of course) put numbers on
them, Then, when we came to race the next week we could pick a pill and that
would be the motor we had to run? What do you think? Might be better than

I'm not saying the legal issues are right or wrong, just pointing out that
they exist. If some old lady spills hot coffee in her lap, McDonalds has to
pay her millions because they didn't warn her that it might be hot. If I go
to your house and slip on the ice, I can sue you for pain and suffering,
especially if you knew the ice was there.
I don't like the "I'm not responsible for my actions" attitude in North
America these days, but I am aware that the courts often find that people
aren't responsible for their own actions. And if you as an organizer or
responsible party know the issue exists and don't take reasonable steps to
mediate (sp) it, it opens you up big time.
