USAC .25 Midget "Generation Next"
Round 7 - Carolina Clash

Salisbury, NC - Mother Nature was kind to the USAC Honda .25 "Generation Next" Round 7 drivers this weekend as they gathered at Bobby Labonte's track in Salisbury, NC. "We lost our practice night to rain the last several events, but the weather treated us nicely this weekend," said Kyle McCain, Series Director. With 214 cars in the house, the Carolina Clash was a success. Two rounds of practice were held on Thursday night from 5 - 9 pm. Friday, 49 heat race and semi events determined the A Main line ups.

After an 8:45 am Drivers Meeting Saturday morning, 16 main events were run, tech was accomplished and Gold, Silver and Bronze Medallions were awarded the top 3 finishers in each division. Winners also received beautiful custom made trophies provided by NCQMA. The Rookie class was the largest of all the National events this season with 17 beginner drivers receiving medals and Honda hats in Victory Lane. "We are working on growing our club and we have a good Rookie Class this season," said Jerry Painter, Club President.

North Carolina Club drivers stole the show taking most of the wins. Jordan Redmond (Red Rookie #1), Leland Bullins (Red Rookie #2) Tyler Conover (Blue Rookie), Connor Yonchuck (Briggs Jr Animal), Ryan Repko (Sr Honda), and Todd Gilliland (Briggs Hvy World Formula). Gage Painter (Lt 160 & Jr Honda), Sam Hatfield (Hvy Honda & Hvy 160) and Michigan Driver Carson Hocevar (Briggs Sr Animal & Lt World Formula) each scored two wins for the weekend. Tyler Ankrum from California took top honors in Hvy AA, Jake Nelke of PA won UnRestricted Animal and Andrew Molleur of Connecticut was the victor in Lt AA.

"Carolina Clash" was the last event before the annual "Battle at the Brickyard", to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, July 9 - 13. New for 2013, a Provisional Starting Spot in the A Main will be awarded to points leaders in each division.

Eastern Midget week - (2 feature races / 3 nights) was also held in the Carolina's. Wednesday evening many Quarter Midget Families made their way to Concord Motor Speedway to watch the Honda Ignite Midgets. Matt Lundstrom and Quarter Midget Grad Wil Raber took their first wins of the series. Friday saw Raber repeat and series points leader Chris Lamb won the other feature. Saturday at Orange County was rained out.

"Battle at the Brickyard" Eastern provisionals were determined this past weekend based on eastern standings at the conclusion of the Carolina Clash.

The following drivers have ensured themselves a spot in their respected A Mains at the Brickyard as long as they elect to register for the event in that particular class with their Eastern points instead of Western. (For example a driver may have earned more Junior Honda points out west, but won the eastern provisional. To be eligible to use that provisional, the driver must then sign up for the event with their eastern points.

Carson Hocevar claimed both eastern and western Light 160 provisionals for the "Battle at the Brickyard." By doing so he eliminated the potential 12th car from competing in the Light 160 A Main. He will have the option of Eastern or Western points for the Light 160 class.
