QMA Conference Call Minutes from June 30, 1997

The call began at 8:00 Eastern time with all present.

Pidge Gill announced that Annette thornhill had removed her name from the list of candidates to fill the position of National Secretary.

Pidge began with recommending Bill Goran for the job and asked the other BOD members to approve or introduce another name for discussion. Karen, Steve and Harold asked to discuss Denise Schlegle for the position due to her extensive experience within QMA. Karen outlined that Denise has been in official leadership titles within her home club for several years while working at the National level with scoring and flagging. Steve reported that she ran a very large asphalt States Race (almost 200 cars) for him two years ago while he was Regional Director and he had to attend the Dirt States Race in Region 2. There was much discussion on the qualifications of Denise. Pidge reported that given this new information he'd realized that he thought that Denise was someone else that he had known. He was thinking of a member from a difference club. Denise is a member of the Doylestown Club. Pidge changed his own recommendation to support Denise and asked Dick and Mike to understand that he had a different person in mind when he made his original recommendation.

Some concerns were addressed over political issues and ramifications attached to both candidates.

Pidge called for a vote:

Pidge Gill: Denise Schlegel

Steve Schmidt: Denise Schlegel

Harold Lambert: Denise Schlegel

Mike Tiernery: Denise Schlegel

Karen Autunno: Denise Schlegel

Dick Silva: Abstained

Chris Gancarz: Did not vote on this issue

Pidge left the call to attempt to contact Denise and bring her in to the meeting.

Pidge returned - he had left a message for Denise on her machine.

Denise Schlegel joined the call midway through the hardships.

It was clarified that a sanction in the Novice Class allows a driver to participate in Honda and/or Super Stock.

Pidge received a request from Pam Rusk for the BOD to revoke the membership of an adult member and his father. The club and region have already done so. Many people at the track are afraid for their own safety with these two men present. Pidge has a complete report and will fax to BOD. No one opposed - Chris did not vote.

A member now has his own oil that Dick feels is illegal and will not pass the oil sniffer test at the States Race and Grands. Dick suggested that he send Bud a letter on this problem.

Discussion on radius rod rule. A Region 4 member is using rod stock that may be questionable. Harold has checked them and feels that there is no way to prove that there is a problem. They pass the magnet test. The member has offered a Certificate of Origin on the stock - Harold will accept it. Denise brought up the point that there may be several other out there in a similar situation. Harold and Denise were concerned about treating all members equally.

Dick introduced a problem with the wording in the Deco Tech Manual as it pertains to Exhaust Ports. Dick felt that there was a change made while attempting to clarify. The concern is with regard to the depth to the guide. (to the beginning, middle, or end of the guide?) The concensus was that the wording will stand. Vote: all in favor Chris and Dick did not vote, Dick stated he had no comment.

Karen reported that the QMA Hall of Fame in Talladega, Alabama, is in need of updating. The facility is instrucing all display owners to update by November 1, 1997, or pull out. The approximate cost is $2500.00. Mike Tierney expressed concerns over this expense coming up every 5 years or so. Vote to approve expense: all in favor Chris Gancarz did not vote. Rose

Ruzic will handle this for us. Mike Tierney wants to approach former QMA drivers who are currently racing in other venues to make donations. Approved.

Discussion on National Meeting dates and location. Mike reported that Directors from regions in his area of the country were concerned over not having the dates and location set yet and over holding a meeting in the third week of January due to preparation time. Steve Schmidt and a few others expressed confusion over why Mike had not booked the correct dates long ago. Steve Schmidt attempted to get information from the Phoenix area and Chris has inquired at the Holiday Inn in Pueblo, Co. The Pueblo facility has not responded so far. Mike stated that due to the fact that Pueblo is one mile high it is an unacceptable location because of weather. Mike offered some explanations - he felt that he had done the job so far and was waiting to see what Steve and Chris came up with. Mike reported all of the dates that he had so far. It was discussed and agreed that none of those dates would comply with the vote of the Regional Directors at the last 2 nationals meetings to not change the days to mid-week. Mike re-expresssed the concern over the timing of a mid-January meeting. It was established that anyone running for the office of RD will have to make a decision and submit his/her name by Oct/Nov for elections and he/she should be on top of things from that point on with regard to attending regional meetings etc. It was also pointed out that the National Board has the same situation on the opposite years. Mike was instructed to book a meeting facility and 7 rooms for the BOD at the Imperial Palace over January 13-17. All in favor" Chris Gancarz did not vote.

Pidge has received a letter of complaint from a man regarding the confiscation of the Honda engine of a member in California. Pidge will fax to the BOD for consideration.

Pidge asked to close the meeting due to the late hour.

Chris asked for resolution to the Fred McNeill Committee reports. Pidge reported that he had recently received Mike McCluney's report and he has had Steve Schmidt's for a while now. He stated that there was nothing in them that we all didn't already know. He was sitting on them trying to decide the best way to publicize the information. It was decided and agreed by all present to publish both Mike's and Steve's reports to the general membership.

Karen reported that with regard to the National Scoring Director position, Chris Gancarz will be backing up karen for the Syracuse Grands and mary Castine for the Sacramento Grands in the event that she needs to stay at home with her mother. Vote: Nobody opposed Chris Gancarz did not vote.
